The Remarried Empress Cast Talks Royal Betrayal, Ambition and Love at Seoul Press Conference

The cast of The Remarried Empress gathered in Seoul on Nov. 3 for a press conference, where Shin Mina, Ju Jihoon, Lee Jongsuk, Lee Seyoung and director Cho Suwon shared their thoughts on the characters and relationships behind the royal drama.

The event also came with an early release announcement. Originally scheduled to premiere on Nov. 4, the series was moved forward by one day and became available on Nov. 3. Following its screening at the Busan International Film Festival, Disney received strong requests from viewers eager to watch the series earlier.

Lee Jongsuk, who plays Prince Heinrey, spoke about the character's connection to Navier and the role he plays in changing her life. He also shared that he had discussions about Heinrey's distinctive gestures and movements, using them as a reference when developing the character. When asked about the mysterious bird Queen, who becomes another rival for Navier's affection, Lee expressed confidence that the character would receive plenty of love from viewers.

Ju Jihoon discussed the complicated position of his character, Emperor Sovieshu. While the emperor's decision to take a concubine and secure an heir may seem cruel, Ju explained that it also carries a sense of justification within the responsibilities of the royal family. However, with the story following Navier's perspective and emotions, viewers are left to consider the situation through her eyes.

Shin Mina, who portrays Navier, spoke about the responsibility of bringing the character to life. Betrayed by the emperor, Navier remains determined to choose her own destiny. Shin shared that she spent considerable time thinking about how to balance Navier's identity as an empress with her emotions as a person, so audiences could understand and support her.

Lee Seyoung, who plays Rashta, described her character as someone whose life changes after meeting Sovieshu at a hunting ground. Although Rashta appears innocent and carefree, her desire to hold on to what she has and gain more gradually grows stronger, bringing conflict to the imperial palace. Lee explained that she sees Rashta's ambition as a fierce instinct for survival, much like someone crying out for food because they need it to live.

Lee Seyoung also recalled being surprised by some of Rashta's dialogue, including the line, "Would it be okay if I called you older sister?"

Director Cho Suwon and the cast also spoke about the preparation behind the production, including the work put into its visual elements and the characters' relationships. For Shin Mina, the drama brings its own interpretation of Navier, with a focus on portraying her as a confident and independent woman.

With its story of royal betrayal, ambition and complicated feelings, The Remarried Empress brings together characters whose choices change the lives of those around them. The series is now available a day earlier than originally planned.
