Perfect Crown is already shaping up to be one of 2026’s most talked-about Korean dramas, and its recent press conference offered a closer look at the story, cast, and creative vision behind the upcoming series. With the first episode set to release at 10th February 10:20PM MYT on Disney+, new episodes will be released every Friday and Saturday night at 10:20PM MYT through the show’s series finale on May 16.

Perfect Crown is the latest Korean title set to debut on Disney+. Fans of unmissable Korean storytelling can also look forward to the upcoming release of A Shop For Killers Season 2 and Made In Korea Season 2, as well as Portraits of Delusion (working title) starring Suzy and Kim Seonho, The Remarried Empress starring Shin Mina, Ju Jihoon, Lee Jongsuk, and Lee Seyoung, as well as a whole host of binge-worthy APAC titles currently streaming on Disney+.

Held ahead of its premiere, the event introduced the drama as a romantic story set in a modern constitutional monarchy. The plot follows a woman who has everything except status and a prince who has status but cannot truly live freely. Their lives collide in a marriage of convenience that slowly turns into something more.

Leading the series are IU and Byeon Woo Seok, a pairing that has already drawn strong attention. IU plays Huiju, a wealthy heiress who struggles with the limitations of her status, while Byeon Woo Seok takes on the role of Grand Prince I-AN, a beloved royal figure bound by strict expectations.

Speaking about her character, IU described Huiju as someone who appears to have it all but feels frustrated by what she lacks. She shared that the character’s mix of emotions, including anger, ambition, and moments of charm, made the role especially appealing and easy to say yes to.

Byeon Woo Seok explained that he was drawn to the story through its strong narrative and emotional depth. He shared that the character’s journey felt relatable, and that the script allowed him to clearly imagine each scene, which played a big role in his decision to join the project.

Behind the camera, director Park Joonhwa spoke about balancing realism with the unique setting of a modern monarchy. He explained that the goal was to make the world feel believable, imagining how a royal family might exist in present-day society. From costumes to settings, the team worked to blend traditional elements with modern life, creating a world that feels both familiar and distinct.

The press conference also highlighted the natural chemistry between the two leads. IU and Byeon Woo Seok shared that they had previously worked together years ago, and that their long-standing connection made filming feel comfortable and smooth. Both actors expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reunite, noting that their familiarity helped bring authenticity to their performances.

When asked about expectations and pressure, Byeon Woo Seok shared that he focuses on doing his best in every moment and accepting the results with humility. IU, on the other hand, confidently expressed her determination to aim for the top, while emphasizing the team’s commitment to promoting the series and delivering their best work.

Director Joon Ha spoke about the pressure of delivering a strong project, especially as this marks his first drama with MBC. He pointed to the cast as the show’s biggest strength, highlighting the chemistry between IU and Byeon Woo Seok. He shared that from their first meeting, they carried a presence that felt fitting for royal roles. Throughout filming, he found both their performances and visuals compelling, adding that viewers can expect different shades of romance in every episode.

IU described her experience working with the director as a major highlight. Having heard only positive feedback about him before joining the project, she found that energy carried onto set. Even during long or tiring shoots, his direction kept the mood light. She also teased that the romance will deepen as the story progresses, with stronger emotional moments to come.

On playing a wealthy and attention-grabbing character, IU shared that while it took time to fully immerse herself, the role became increasingly fun. Her character blends elegance with a modern influencer-like presence, making her more dynamic than a traditional portrayal.

Byeon Woo Seok, who plays a royal figure burdened by limitations, said he focused on understanding the character through the script. He worked closely with the director and fellow actors to build emotional depth, relying on strong writing and on-set collaboration to shape each scene.

The cast also discussed the show’s unique setting of a modern constitutional monarchy. Styling became a key focus, especially for Byeon Woo Seok, who worked to combine traditional hanbok elements with contemporary fashion. The goal was to reflect both heritage and modern identity within each character.

Noh Sang Hyun noted that the series highlights the harmony between tradition and modern life, from architecture to costumes. Gong Seung Yeon shared that portraying a queen came with pressure, especially in balancing a royal tone with modern dialogue, while Yoo Soo Bin prepared for his role by studying real-life political aides.

Looking ahead, the team emphasized the show’s global reach through Disney+. The cast expressed hope that international viewers will connect with both the visual beauty and the emotional relationships at the core of the story. While rooted in Korean aesthetics, the series aims to present themes that feel relatable across cultures.

For IU, taking on a completely different role from her previous project made the transition easier, allowing her to approach Perfect Crown with a fresh perspective. The director added that while the series showcases Korean elements, its core lies in universal relationships that audiences everywhere can enjoy.

With a strong cast, an experienced director, and a story that blends romance with a unique setting, Perfect Crown is set to premiere on April 10 on Disney+ Malaysia, marking one of the platform’s major Korean releases this year.
