MTV Asia will premiere the ‘2019 One K Concert’ as the first cable broadcaster of the concert in Southeast Asia. To help as many fans as possible to get their dose of Kpop, Twitter will be MTV Asia’s exclusive social media partner to stream the concert to #KpopTwitter fans around the region. Over 20 Kpop stars lent their voices in this concert that signifies the message of ‘One Dream, One Korea, One World’, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of a movement towards independence in South Korea.

Hosted by boy band Astro’s Cha Eun Woo and girl group Gugudan’s Kim Se-Jeong, the star-studded lineup includes Ha Sung Woon, OH MY GIRL, MONSTA X, APRIL, ASTRO, SF9, (G)I-dle, LABOUM, SONAMOO, CLC, DREAMCATCHER, KARD, ONF, TRCNG, DUETTO, Kim Jo Han, Baek Ji-Young, Jung In, ALi, Cheetah, BEN, Seo JiAn, Gilgu Bonggu, and Juniel.

Held at the National Assembly Building in South Korea on 1 March, this is the third installment of the concert and is part of the ‘One Korea Global Campaign’. It takes inspiration from Korean pop culture and encourages international audiences to come together in the unification of Korea and ultimately, global peace.

Besides the concert, other activities include an art exhibition, art festival, art contest and a documentary film. Previous Kpop and international talents in the concert include Psy, SHINee, BTOB, Peabo Bryson and Dami Im in 2017; and EXO, Sista, BTS, Red Velvet and SPICA in 2015.

Yo! MTV Raps will premiere in mid-April in Asia

MTV Asia revealed its line-up of 33 hip hop artists from 11 countries around the globe for the Asian edition of “YO! MTV Raps”. One of the most influential hip hop shows revived for fans in Asia, MTV Asia has curated a line-up from rising superstars to established rap icons to celebrate the explosion of hip hop culture across Asia. This series will air in Asia mid-April onwards, and promises to be a diverse, widely distributed linear and digital series across MTV Asia’s platforms.

Setting the stage are the hosts — global DJ, producer and model Kim Lee and Singaporean rapper and songwriter, Yung Raja. They are joined by segment presenters, winner of the ‘2018 MTV EMA Award for Best Southeast Asia Act’ Joe Flizzow as the ‘Cypher Boss’, while uber-cool rapper Zamaera takes her spot as ‘The Game Master’.

Special guests from Korea include Dynamic Duo, Gray & Woo Won Jae

The who’s-who in Asian hip hop are set to blaze a trail as the special guests in the series. Stay tuned for DaBoyWay, part of pioneering hip hop group Thaitanium from Thailand; South Korean household names such as rap duo Dynamic Duo; music producer GRAY who has worked with top Korean hip hop acts; and rapper Woo who gained recognition in the rap competition, ‘Show me the Money’. Rounding up the star appeal are Vietnam’s queen of hip hop Suboi; and American rapper and viral sensation Bhad Bhabie.

Represent Korea: YunB, Flowsik, Owen Ovadoz, Basick & Reddy

With the hip hop scene on fire in South Korea, find out what is K-hip hop from well-known veteran and breakout rappers such as Basick, Flowsik, Reddy, YunB, and Owen Ovadoz.

The artists from Thailand include rapper/producer FIIXD, who has collaborated with many prominent Thai artists; YOUNGOHM, recipient of the “Song of the Year” in the Rap Is Now (RIN) Awards 2017; and US-born singer-rapper-songwriter Radio3000, who is based in Thailand.

Represent Malaysia: Benzooloo & SonaOne

Malaysia’s crew is represented by Benzooloo, part of hip hop collective Lawalah Familia; up-and-coming rapper Lil J; and multi-talented rappers, producers and songwriters Kmy Kmo and Luca Sickta. In addition, SonaOne, whose single ‘No More’ took home the ‘Best Song’ accolade at the 21st Anugerah Industri Muzik awards cranks up the Malaysian presence.

Singaporean hip hop artiste and prolific producer, Alif, formerly from award-winning hip hop duo SleeQ which disbanded in 2015, will also be part of the show.

Hailing from Indonesia are A. Nayaka, whose work was nominated as one of the ‘Top 20 Albums in 2016’ by Rolling Stone Indonesia, and Laze, known for his genius freestyle.

Lending some Chinese star power are rapper Vava - her ‘My New Swag’ song which was in the ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ movie soundtrack; Al Rocco, who has performed at music festivals such as Ultra and South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference and Festivals; and Chinese-American rapper Bohan Phoenix, who raps a blend of East-West rhymes.

More artists who will showcase their individual styles: Japanese/Korean rapper CHANMINA with her combination of rap and pop melodies; Abra from the Philippines, winner of the ‘Best Rap Artist’ at the Urban Music Awards 2018; music producer/rapper Dough-Boy from Hong Kong; and Datmaniac from Vietnam, known for his freestyle skills.

This “YO!” series is on the back of MTV Asia’s “YO! MTV Raps” special which aired in June 2018, featuring 11 Asian hip-hop artists from Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. The top performing 5-artist Cypher* video garnered over 1.2 million video views in Southeast Asia. The special was also awarded the ‘Best Music or Dance Programme’ at the Asian Academy Creative Awards in December 2018.

After its debut 30 years ago on August 6, 1988, “YO! MTV Raps” became the premiere destination for all things hip hop. The advent of the series was crucial to the rise of rap music, and created a global passion for the genre and greater hip hop culture, which has since become the most dominant force in mainstream music and pop culture worldwide. In addition to MTV Asia’s “YO! MTV Raps” edition, MTV International will premiere local versions of the legendary hip hop franchise for the UK, Germany and Africa this year.

MTV Asia today announced it will be the first to broadcast the opening concert of the 2018 Busan One Asia Festival in Southeast Asia on 2 December at 7pm (WIB), 8pm (SG) and 9pm (MY). The network will also be airing the closing concert on 9 December at the same times. This is the second year MTV Asia is supporting Busan One Asia Festival. A special MTV curated K-pop playlist will also run on MTV Asia for a week, starting today.

Get ready, Singapore! Riot Games, the video game publisher behind ever popular online game League of Legends, has just turned the lens on players and fans with an unprecedented fan offering! Riot Games has announced Hyperplay, the first integrated ASEAN eSports and music festival is now a complimentary-ticketed event for all to attend at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Saturday, 4 August 2018 and Sunday, 5 August 2018.

Hyperplay is one of the three festivals happening as part of YOUTHx, a larger celebration of youth aspirations which aims to bring youths from all walks of life together. The diverse line-up of events, which include SHINE Festival and GetActive!SG, is initiated by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and the National Youth Council (NYC).

Through two of today’s biggest cultural cornerstones of this generation – eSports and music, youths from all across Singapore and ASEAN can expect to come together for a weekend of hype and thrills, while embodying the youthful spirit of passion, dynamism and the freedom to dream big! On top of that, youths can get to immerse themselves in activities ranging from dance performances to fitness at SHINE Festival and GetActive!SG, the other two festivals under the YOUTHx umbrella.

“With Singapore as the ASEAN Chair this year, Singaporean youth are extremely happy and proud to host other ASEAN youth at the YOUTHX Festival weekend, all co-located at the Singapore Sports Hub. Access is complimentary for all, so that our Singaporean and ASEAN youth can participate together to celebrate their aspirations and strengthen the ASEAN identity,” said David Chua, Chief Executive of National Youth Council.

“In the lead-up to Hyperplay, we recognize this is a first of its kind event. We now want to make this an inclusive event to give players and fans from all walks of life a chance to catch all the esports action and music entertainment. More importantly, while complementing the other components of YOUTHx, we hope to encourage youths to bring along their friends with various interests to come experience and discover what Hyperplay has to offer for everyone,” shared Chris Tran, Regional Manager of Riot Games for Southeast Asia.

Players and fans can now get their free Hyperplay tickets when they visit APACTix.com to secure General Admission tickets. For fans who have already purchased tickets to Hyperplay; not only will they receive full refunds for their purchase, they will also be rewarded for their early support of ASEAN’s first eSports and music festival, with an upgrade to a seat in the CAT 1 section. All existing ticket holders will be notified about the new arrangements.

DAY 1 – SATURDAY, 4 AUGUST

Hyperplay will begin on 4 August with the first League of Legends Semi-finals followed by Singapore’s favourite The Sam Willows, the 1st act who will take the MTV Spotlight stage with their half-time set. This will be followed by the second Semi-finals and then by South Korea’s superstar vocalist and rapper CL, to round up Day 1 with a bang.

DAY 2 – SUNDAY, 5 AUGUST

Stay tuned for 5 August, as performances on the MTV Spotlight stage by Indonesian idol Afgan and Thailand’s leading rock band Slot Machine will continue the music high, to set the mood for the Finals and the eventual League of Legends ASEAN Champion. As a festival finale, celebrate with Nick Jonas and Alessia Cara at the first ever integrated eSports and music event in the region.

Grammy Award Winner Alessia Cara Completes the Stella Performers' Line-Up for MTV Spotlight at Hyperplay

Hyperplay, the first integrated ASEAN esports and music festival, just got another massive dose of star power! Alessia Cara, the ‘Best New Artist’ at the Grammy Awards 2018, has been unveiled as the sixth and final act to rock the MTV Spotlight @ Hyperplay stage on Sunday, 5 August 2018 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Performing in Singapore for the first time, Cara will join five other acts who will display their musical prowess during the Hyperplay weekend. This includes superstar vocalist CL and four-member pop band The Sam Willows on 4 August, as well as leading rock band Slot Machine, pop idol Afgan and multiplatinum superstar Nick Jonas on 5 August.

Combining the two pop culture pillars of esports and music, Hyperplay will deliver a new entertainment experience for the audience. Starting on 4 August, the first League of Legends Semi-finals will kick off the festival before The Sam Willows take the stage for their half-time set. This will be followed by the second Semi-finals and CL will close Day 1 with a bang. Performances by Afgan and Slot Machine will continue the music high on 5 August, and set the mood for the Finals and the eventual League of Legends winner. Hyperplay has revealed its first wave of performers for MTV Spotlight @ Hyperplay today with South Korea’s superstar vocalist and rapper CL, Thailand’s leading rock band Slot Machine, Indonesian idol Afgan and Singapore’s favourite The Sam Willows. Hyperplay, the first integrated ASEAN esports and music festival, is set to feature MTV Spotlight, which brings multi-genre talents onto a single stage at different times during Hyperplay. The two-day ticketed event will take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Saturday, 4 August 2018 and Sunday, 5 August 2018. Additional acts will be announced in the coming weeks.

Hyperplay is powered by Riot Games and MTV, presented by the Singapore Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and the National Youth Council (NYC) of Singapore, and supported by gold sponsor Clear Men. Hyperplay will integrate the two biggest pop culture pillars of this generation, esports and music, into a single weekend event. The esports tournament will share the stage with MTV Spotlight, comprised of four electrifying music performance segments by international, regional and local artists. The music performances will also be edited into a 60-minute “MTV Spotlight” special, which will premiere on 21 August on MTV in Southeast Asia.
