On 3 August, (G)I-DLE released their new summer single, ‘DUMDi DUMDi’.

As of 7 August, ‘DUMDi DUMDi' has surpassed 1 million streams on the korean digital streaming platform, GENIE. Of course, (G)I-DLE’s success extends beyond their domestic popularity! Internationally, ‘DUMDi DUMDi’ has soared to the top in the iTunes Top Songs Chart in 41 regions, namely, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, and more. As of today, the official music video has already reached over 40 million views. With barely 3 years since their debut, (G)I-DLE has showed tremendous potential to excel in the future as one of the biggest girl groups in the K-pop industry.

The pleasant girls of (G)I-DLE took time off their busy schedules to answer questions from the GOKPOP team.

When asked to describe the new summer single ‘DUMDi DUMDi’ which differs from the usual powerful and strong image of the girls, Miyeon responded, “‘DUMDi DUMDi’ is a refreshing song that will blow this heat away. The lyrics address our youth and passion, which are just like summer.” It has only been less than a week since the release of ‘DUMDi DUMDi’ and we are already addicted to the melodious tune and catchy lyrics!

Intrigued by Soyeon’s never-ending concept-generating for (G)I-DLE, we had to know her muse this time when producing for the new release! Of course, the leader of (G)I-DLE charmingly answered, “the 23-year-old me.” She also mentioned her goal to ingrain the words ‘DUMDi DUMDi’. Indeed, Soyeon is one genius producer!

Shuhua also commented that through the preparations for the comeback, the girls had dance practices every day. Even though the choreography changed little by little and she recalled struggling for a few days, it was a memorable episode of the comeback preparation for the youngest member of (G)I-DLE. You truly worked hard, Shuhua!

(G)-IDLE has also successfully completed their 1st online concert recently! With this being their first concert since debut, we were curious about how the girls felt meeting NEVERLANDs (affectionate name for the fans of (G)I-DLE) virtually. Soojin stated, “We were upset that we couldn’t actually meet, but the chat let us communicate with our fans in real time, so it was fun.” I am 502% sure NEVERLANDs feel the same way!

When questioned what the members of (G)I-DLE are most looking forward to apart from making their comeback, Yuqi expressed that they are always looking forward to the chance to meet NEVERLAND up close. NEVERLANDs are also anticipating the day we can meet the girls again!

Regarding the plans and goals for this comeback, Minnie conveyed that (G)I-DLE’s goal is for everyone to enjoy this summer by listening to ‘DUMDi DUMDi’ and cheer up during these struggling times. “Although we can’t meet NEVERLAND in real life, we hope this song will make everyone feel better.” As expected from the sweet and kind-hearted girls of (G)-IDLE!

[Media Showcase] (G)I-DLE Makes Eye-Catching 'DUMDi DUMDi' Summer Comeback + New Variety Show Coming Soon!

(G)I-DLE returns with refreshing summer single 'DUMDi DUMDi' after four months of their "Oh My God" comeback. Composed by leader So-yeon and composer Pop Time, "DUMDi DUMDi" is a tropical dance track with a Moombahton rhythm, showcasing (G)I-DLE vibrant and youthful images. Ahead of the release, the members attended the online media showcase this evening to talk about their new single and also their 1st solo concert held last month.

Q: How do you describe your new single ‘DUMDI DUMDI’?

So-yeon: While writing for the summer song, I was thinking what suits 'summer' then I thought of 'youth'. Both 'summer' and 'youth' give a refreshing and passionate feeling. That's how I created the song. I hope (through the song) you can feel the 'summer' and 'youthful' vibes at the same time.

Q: The members came up with the visual concepts for this comeback. Could you share more about this Soojin?

SooJin: We searched alot of photos to find the vintage look that suits us. We wanted to show #GIDLE own unique summer vibes

Q: How do you feel about your first online concert, 'I-LAND: WHO AM I"? Are you looking forward to the next?

Soyeon: It's a pity that we couldn't meet the fans face to face since the concert was held online. Hopefully, we can meet for a concert soon. Even though the concert was held online but we still had fun preparing for it and we hope Neverlands had fun as well.

Q: Each member had their solo stages at the concert. Are you satisfied with your solo stage?

Soo-Jin: I'll give myself 5 out of five. You'll know only if you see the stage.

Mi-Yeon: Me too. I'll give myself 5 points too. Although I'm still lacking in many ways but if you see my performance you'll impressive by my good voice. So I'll give myself a 5! Although I'm the main vocalist but (for my next solo stage) I wanted to take challenge on dancing. Soo-jin to be vocalist and I'll be the dancer.

So-yeon: I'll give myself 5 points too. There were lots of things I wanted to show during my trainee days but after debut there's a limit when comes to music show performances. So this is the opportunity where I can showcase the stage that I can perform well.

Yuqi: I think 5 points are not enough (to rate) my solo stage. If you see my performance, you'll see my diverse sides. You'll regret if you don't see it. Actually, not only the public but sometimes fans also confused about my position in the group. I'm actually the vocalist. So this is the first time I'm able to show my skill as a vocalist.

Shuhua: I want to give myself 5 points too. I think my stage was very beautiful. When I looked at the monitor, I almost fell in love with myself.

Minnie: I'll give 4.5 points to myself. If we could meet Neverland, I'll give 5 points instead.

Q: Tell us more about "i'M THE TREND" which co-composed by Minnie and Yuqi.

Minnie: Normally me and So-yeon will write the lyrics but as Yuqi started to write, I naturally joined Yuqi and started to compose the song together. It's an upbeat song, so I think it's great to give Neverland as a present. We have never had a fan song, so this is the first.

Yuqi: I'm very close to Minnie but when comes to producing music, I get to see her different side, a serious side of Minnie.

Song Ji Hyo & Son Ho-jun are Ready To Make You Laugh in drama 'Was It Love?'

Was It Love? airs every Wed & Thurs on Netflix at 8PM

Rom-com Was It Love? is ready to make you swoon and laugh! Song Ji-hyo, Son Ho-jun, Song Jong-ho, Koo Ja-sung, Kim Min-jun, and Kim Da-som revealed many funny details about their characters in the drama press conference.

1. Ha-nee is more mature than her mother AND her grandmother

Song Ji-hyo revealed her character Noh Ae-jeong tries to be a mother that’s more like a friend, having become a mother at a young age. Ae-jeong’s own mother is even more like a friend. “I think my daughter is actually the most mature.”

2. “Oh Dae-o is very foolish”

Most actors try to praise their characters, but Son Ho-jun threw some shade about his character Oh Dae-o. The character doesn’t search for the reason why he and Ae-jeong broke up within himself. He believes Ae-jeong left him and portrayed himself as a victim in his book.

3. Ryu-Jin’s meme-worthy hairstyle

Song Jong-ho admitted that his character’s old hairstyle was, to put it nicely, homely. Following comments that the hairstyle is similar to the director’s, Song Jong-ho joked, “It’s an homage to the director.”

4. Kim Min-jun doesn’t think his character looks that scary

While others commented on how scary his character Koo Pa-do looks, Kim Min-jun adorably said he didn’t think he looked that scary in stills. Koo Pa-do is a former gangster, so the rest of the cast couldn’t agree with him lol.

5. You’re going to love hating Joo A-rin, at first

Kim Da-som talked about how her character Joo A-rin “looks innocent and pretty, but is actually very provocative and relentless.” The actress disclosed that A-rin can be a bit annoying, but she’s very honest and forthright. She explained that while the character won’t be liked in the beginning, you’ll understand her more later.

6. It rains a LOT in Was It Love?

Song Ji-hyo reveals it rains and snows very often. There’s even cherry blossoms raining! She talked about a memorable scene with Song Jong-ho in the rain, “Song Jong-ho couldn’t open his eyes while he was crying because it was raining so hard, so I laughed.”
