CJ ENM announced that Asia’s biggest music awards ‘2018 MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards)' came to a great finale in Hong Kong last Friday, 14 December 2018 concluding the week-long journey of ‘MAMA WEEK.’

'2018 MAMA in Hong Kong’s red carpet and award show was broadcasted live via Mnet and major channels throughout Asia, including Mwave, YouTube, Naver TV, V Live etc., covering over 200 regions worldwide. CJ ENM reported that during the red carpet alone, more than 9.2 million votes were casted for the ‘Best Asian Style’, and MAMA ranked number one for worldwide Twitter trends, solidifying MAMA’s global presence and buzz among global music fans.

This year’s '2018 MAMA in HONG KONG' was filled mega-stage performances combined with Mnet’s advanced stage production to create the best stages for Asia’s top artists. More than 14,000 fans gathered at the AsiaWorld-Expo Arena to see their favorite artists perform, which included a star-studded lineup: BTS, Chung Ha, GOT7, Heize, IZ*ONE, Roy Kim, WANNA ONE, Seventeen, Sunmi, etc.

MAMA was completed with artists from all across the globe to perform and present awards. Pop legend Janet Jackson not only surprised music fans with her appearance, but also took home the ‘Janet Jackson Inspiration Award.’ In addition, Asia’s top celebrities including JJ LIN and Shanghai-born actress Yeung Wing (stage name: Angelababy) also made a presence.

Collaboration stages presented just for MAMA fans transcended languages, generations, and genres, including: Chinese-Singaporean pop star JJ LIN and Kim Jong Kook, hip hop legends Tiger JK & Yoon Mirae and rising stars Chung Ha and Vernon (of Seventeen), and MOMOLAND together with Mommy Son.

Meanwhile, BTS took home two awards: ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’, and the team teared up as they delivered an emotional acceptance speech. Other big winners of the night included TWICE, who was also in tears are they won ‘Song of the Year’ for their song ‘What is Love?’

2018 MAMA started its journey with '2018 MAMA PREMIERE in KOREA' at Dongdaemun Design Plaza(DDP) in Korea on December 10th, followed by '2018 MAMA FANS’ CHOICE in JAPAN' at Saitama Super Arena on December 12th, and made its grand finale in '2018 MAMA in HONG KONG' on December 14th. 2018 MAMA concluded its most spectacular year joined by a total of 40 thousand fans onsite and another 32 million fans that had watched the show live online.

The female lead of ‘Scarlet Heart: Ryeo’, better known as hit singer IU, brought the house down during her solo concert ‘dlwlrma’ on Saturday night at The Star Theatre! The nation sister adorably shared that this is the first time she’s setting foot in Singapore, and that she was really excited to be here! She went on to add that she was even more amazed after seeing Singapore in person (compared to seeing Singapore onscreen), and that she has fallen in love with the city. Although she was extremely apologetic towards her fans for not realizing that her fanbase here was so strong.

Throughout the 2-hour long show, she performed an array of songs ranging from classic hits such as ‘You & I’, ‘Only I Didn’t Know’, to slow ballads such as ‘Through the Night’. Fans even got to witness IU’s famous 3 high notes from ‘Good day’! The concert was planned such that it showed IU’s journey through the past decade (from debut till now); a series of trailers through various eras which complemented each performance set.

It was easy to see how much IU loves her fans because she was awed by how they sang along perfectly in Korean – ‘I got goosebumps! I know how difficult it is to sing in another language, I really know but you guys were perfect. Thank you for trying for my sake. Now it is my turn, and I heard that a lot of my 싱애나() asked for this song, so this is my gift to you guys.’ She then took the crowd by surprise by singing Karen Mok’s ‘爱’.

The surprise continued when IU took the chance to dedicate a song to Jonghyun, who passed away last year. Before the stage, IU explained that the song was never in the original setlist but it was (and still is!) a great source of comfort for her ever since she met the song, ending off with, ‘I hope this song will reach the person I really miss’. After which, she swapped her usual purple microphone for a pearl aqua microphone, and ‘Gloomy Clock’ came on.

The singer shared that when she was younger, she used to pay attention to the people who disliked her, resulting in songs with dark and sharp lyrics. However, she has noticed that she has shifted her focus to love instead, and that the fans are a great source of comfort for her, as well as the reason why she has started to learn to love herself. She also explained how she is starting to leave behind the adorable image over time and that this tour would be the last time that fans will witness ‘Marshmallow’ and ‘Boo’ on stage. However, IU’s cute antics with the marshmallow mascots were definitely worth it!

During the ending ment, IU shared that the Singapore stage/studio was a surprise to the team because of how luxurious everything was. She even added on that it was a dream for most singers, and she was so glad that she had the chance to experience it. Adding on to the good memories in Singapore, fans held up banners and fingerlights that mimicked fireflies when IU sang ‘Dear Name’ during the encore! They got IU’s seal of approval because she happily announced that the lights really looked like fireflies and it was a sight that she had never seen before. The singer even returned to the stage for an en-encore after changing out of stage attire to perform ‘Shower’ and ‘Heart’ before wrapping up the entire show!

No worries for those who couldn’t make it for her ‘dlwlrma’ show because the singer has promised that she will be back on our shores again next year! She revealed that she has plans to bring her family her for a vacation, and that many of her personal friends lived here too, so when she is here, all she has are good memories! Is she hinting at another event next year as well? We’ll all be anticipating even more good news from IU for 2019!

“Encounter”, this year-end’s highly-anticipated blockbuster drama series, premiered to stellar viewership ratings and looks set to rule the drama charts as ratings stay at a high, impressing viewers with scenic views and captivating storyline.

Featuring two powerhouses as the main leads – Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo – the debut episode broke tvN’s viewership ratings record for a Wednesday-Thursday drama premiere and continues to be a leading drama in its timeslot across free-to-air and cable TV channels.

The debut episode recorded an impressive viewership rating of 8.7 per cent, surpassing the 6.3 per cent rating of hit K-drama Goblin’s premiere. “Encounter” has also claimed the top spot in its timeslot last week, outperforming SBS’ “An Empress’s Dignity” and MBC’s “Children of Nobody”, with viewership ratings of 7.6 per cent and 3.9 percent respectively. “Encounter” also holds the second highest premiere viewership rating among tvN’s dramas.

As the leading pan-regional OTT multi-screen video service by PCCW Media Group, Viu holds the exclusive rights to stream the drama online in Asia.

This means that Hallyu fans in Singapore can look forward to new episodes of the drama (with subtitles) on Viu every Thursday and Friday, just four hours after the telecast in Korea!

“Encounter” sees the return of the two co-leads to the small screen. Song, who was last seen in “Descendants of the Sun”, plays the role of Cha Soo Hyun, a politician’s daughter, while Park of “Love in the Moonlight” fame returns as Kim Jin Hyuk, a free- spirited young man.

About Encounter

The drama centres on Cha Soo Hyun who divorces from her wealthy husband to free herself from her burdens. She then travels to Cuba and unexpectedly meets Kim Jin Hyuk who helps her in her moment of need. Their chance encounter continues upon their return to Korea where their lives start to intertwine in a fateful love story.
