Disney Looks Ahead at D23 With First Looks Across Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and More


Disney brought its biggest franchises and upcoming projects together at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, Calif., where thousands of fans gathered for a day of exclusive reveals, immersive experiences and first looks.

The Disney Entertainment Showcase at the Honda Center was opened by Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro, who highlighted the company’s connection with more than four billion fans around the world. The sold-out event featured appearances from stars, filmmakers, creators and performers across Disney’s entertainment brands.

Disney kicked off the showcase with updates from its film studios. Lilo & Stitch 2 is set to begin production in Hawaiʻi later this year and will arrive in cinemas May 26, 2028. The Bluey Movie, based on the popular animated series, debuted a new teaser and poster ahead of its Aug. 6, 2027 theatrical release. Ice Age: Boiling Point also received an exclusive clip, with the film set to arrive in cinemas Feb. 5, 2027.

The live-action Tangled adaptation was also spotlighted, with Kathryn Hahn appearing onstage and Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim joining through a taped message from Spain. The film is scheduled for March 31, 2028. Jon Favreau also introduced Oswald, a new live-action animated hybrid series about Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, which will premiere on Disney+ Feb. 17, 2027.

Pixar followed with a series of new reveals. Incredibles 3 received an exclusive first look and is set for June 16, 2028. Disney and Pixar also shared new details about Coco 2, including Miguel as a teenager and the return of Ernesto de la Cruz. The film is scheduled to debut in November 2029.

Pixar also announced Ghost Market, a new original film set around a hidden plate lunch shop in Oʻahu that serves lost spirits, while Gatto, an animated adventure set in Venice, will arrive in cinemas March 5, 2027.

Marvel Studios brought its own wave of announcements, beginning with VisionQuest, the upcoming Disney+ series arriving Oct. 14, 2026. The showcase also featured a special look at Avengers: Doomsday, ahead of its Dec. 18, 2026 theatrical release.

The next generation of X-Men was also revealed, with Sadie Sink set to play Jean Grey alongside Kit Connor as Scott Summers, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue and Maya Boyd as Storm. The untitled X-Men film is scheduled for May 5, 2028. A new trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine was also unveiled, with the PlayStation 5 game arriving Sept. 15.

Lucasfilm presented the first teaser for Season 2 of Ahsoka, premiering Jan. 20, 2027 on Disney+, while Ryan Gosling joined director Shawn Levy to preview Star Wars: Starfighter, which opens May 28, 2027.

Disney Animation also looked ahead. Zootopia 3 is officially in early development, while the studio announced Clay, a new original animated feature starring Kieran Culkin as the voice of Flip. Disney’s Hexed also received a casting update, with Walton Goggins and Jodie Foster joining the voice cast.
The showcase closed with Frozen 3, as Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel performed a new version of “Frozen Heart,” while Josh Gad introduced a new song for Olaf. New animation teased a new villain whose powers rival Elsa’s. Frozen 3 is scheduled for Nov. 24, 2027.

Beyond film and television, Disney also announced a new Kingdom Hearts anime series for Disney Channel and Disney+, a 2028 West End premiere for The Greatest Showman stage adaptation, and an extension of Disney and Formula 1’s “Fuel the Magic” collaboration through 2028.

The Anaheim Convention Center also hosted the largest show floor in D23 history, with immersive activations, interactive experiences, exclusive merchandise and panels covering Disney’s many worlds.
With more programming and the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase still ahead, D23 made one thing clear: Disney is already looking toward its next chapter.
