Everything We Miss From 'Vincenzo'

Friday, May 14, 2021

Vincenzo fans around the world are wondering what to do this weekend without our favourite consigliere and that perfect combination of comedy, drama, action, and romance. As rindu Vincenzo together, let’s ease the ache with a review of our favourite parts of the show!

Vincenzo Cassano

Our beloved titular character Vincenzo (Song Joong-ki) is so handsome and such a force to be reckoned with. He’s always oozing with charm whether he’s speaking Italian or serving villains a taste of their own medicine. As a dark hero, he is a flawed but appealing character because he has his own code of ethics. He’s a good-looking sharpshooter who naturally commands respect from everyone including criminals and even pigeons. Vincenzo will forever be our favorite consigliere.

Vincenzo & Hong Cha-young

Our consigliere-lawyer duo is so cute together whether they’re setting up traps for the bad guys or engaged in some romantic moments. Clever and sassy, Hong Cha-young (Jeon Yeo-been) holds her own and doesn’t fade in the background when she’s with Vincenzo. The pair bond over their shared loss and thirst for revenge. They make an excellent team and their chemistry is undeniable. While their romance is not always at the forefront, we’ll miss their tender-hearted moments and smoldering kiss scenes *dies inside*.

Geumga Plaza Fam

The Geumga Plaza people who transformed into the Cassano Geumga Family will be sorely missed as well. Each member is unique and possesses special abilities that aid their fight against the villains. From Jipuragi team member Ju-seong (Yoon Byung-hee) and his special effects skills to dry cleaner Hong-sik (Choi Duk-moon)’s scissor fighting, each of them are able to channel their expertise and contribute. While they have always had these talents, they were able to harness them for a meaningful cause when Vincenzo entered their lives.

The Baddies

The villains are deliciously evil, and we love to hate them. Jang Han-seok (Ok Taec-yeon) is so murderous and off-kilter that he killed his own father. Choi Myung-hee helps Han-seok and plans the killings of both Cha-young’s father and Vincenzo’s mother. They lack empathy and feel no remorse for their heinous actions. Han Seung-hyuk (Cho Han-cheul) is weaselly, self-serving, and has no loyalty. Jang Han-seo (Kwak Dong-yeon) starts out as a dopey villain, but changes as he’s influenced by Vincenzo and begins to stand up against his brother.

The Justice

In a world full of evil and injustice, Vincenzo’s brand of justice is appealing. Vincenzo’s no saint and he lives with guilt, but his style of fighting evil with evil works. When villains get away with atrocious crimes due to their wealth, power, and connections, it’s frustrating and unfair. Even when there are efforts to achieve justice through legal means, nefarious criminals are still able to escape. Vincenzo does have his own code and would not kill innocent people, so we can get behind him when he doles out justice mafioso style.

The Humor

Crime and revenge are heavy topics, but the show balances it out with comedic moments. There are so many running jokes like Vincenzo’s relationship with the pigeon Inzaghi and consigliere being mispronounced as corn salad. All of the characters are so funny including Mr. An (Lim Cheol-soo) with his signature hand gesture and CEO Park (Kim Young-woong)’s nutria impersonation. Even our intimidating mafia lawyer finds himself in amusing situations like getting robbed by thieves and battling a temperamental showerhead. So many laughs.
