JANNABI Finally Finds Its Way to Singapore With ‘Sweat & Stardust’
JANNABI made its Singapore debut on Aug. 13, bringing the band’s JANNABI 1st Asia Tour: Sweat & Stardust in Singapore to Capitol Theatre for a night filled with soaring vocals, warm melodies and plenty of interaction with the crowd.
Organized by Friedrice Entertainment, the concert marked the band’s first time performing in Singapore. From the opening moments, the audience responded with an energy that stayed high throughout the night, creating an immediate connection between the stage and the packed theatre.
The production kept things relatively simple while making strong use of lighting. The colours and arrangements shifted naturally with each song, matching the mood of the music and adding to the atmosphere without taking attention away from the band.
Early in the set, “Baby I Need You” had the crowd shouting “JANNABI!” loudly, setting the tone for an evening where the audience was more than happy to sing and respond along.
The band also made sure to get closer to their Singapore fans. During “Tell Me,” Junghoon came down into the crowd, where fans excitedly welcomed him while giving him enough space to move around. The moment felt spontaneous without becoming chaotic, allowing the interaction to unfold naturally.
One of the most romantic moments came during “for lovers who hesitate.” Fans were asked to turn on their phone flashlights, transforming Capitol Theatre into a sea of small lights as the song played. The simple gesture created one of the night's prettiest scenes.
The energy picked up again during “What’s Up?”, with the audience responding loudly to the song. Dohyung also came down from the stage to interact with fans, even throwing a pick to one lucky audience member.
For a band whose music is often associated with its lyrics and emotional storytelling, the live show added another layer to the songs. English translations of the lyrics were displayed on screen throughout the concert, making it easier for the audience to follow the meaning behind each song and connect with the performance.
The encore brought a softer, more emotional mood with “dreams, books, power and walls.” The audience joined in with the band, turning the song into a shared sing-along that felt especially fitting after an evening built around connection.
JANNABI also ended the night with a personal touch. The closing VCR featured footage from the band’s trip around Singapore, giving fans a glimpse of their time in the city. The fact that the vlog was already edited and ready to play by the end of the show even became a small surprise in itself.
For a first Singapore performance, JANNABI 1st Asia Tour: Sweat & Stardust in Singapore felt sincere rather than overly staged. The band's live performances brought a different charm to the songs, with the music feeling even more engaging in person than on record.
And after years of waiting for JANNABI to finally make its way to Singapore, the night ended with a simple feeling: it was worth the wait.
