Cho Yi-hyun introduced her character by saying, “Seong-A is a high school student who leads a double life–a high school student by day and a shaman by night.” While Korean shamanism might be unfamiliar to many global viewers, its rich traditions and spiritual elements adds a fresh layer of intrigue to the story. What makes Head Over Heels especially unique is that its protagonist is a Gen Z shaman–a perspective rarely explored on screen. Speaking about her preparation for the role, Cho Yi-hyun shared “I learned how to do things in shaman rituals from a real-life shaman teacher.” The series offers a fresh take on the coming-of-age genre, following a young girl as she navigates the challenges of high school while carrying the weighty responsibility of saving her first love.

Some people might hesitate if they’re scared of horror, but our series is more fun than frightening–it’s a cute kind of scary.” Choo Ja-hyun, who portrays one of the ghosts added, “There are a lot of unexpected characters and twists in the series.” So don’t worry–while Head Over Heels brings the thrills, it’s designed to be an enjoyable watch for everyone.

Main leads Cho Yi-hyun and Choo Young-woo aren’t strangers on screen–the two previously starred together in School 2021, where Choo’s character harbored unrequited feelings for Cho’s, leaving viewers with a serious case of second lead syndrome.  Naturally, when news broke of their reunion in Head Over Heels, fans were eager to see the pair take on a full-fledged romance. Choo Young-woo commented on their reunion saying, “Yi-hyun became even prettier. I think as we reunited and acted together, our chemistry just kept getting better.” Cho Yi-hyun added, “It was smoother. We didn’t need to do any icebreaking.” With their previous experience together, fans can expect their on-screen chemistry in Head Over Heels to shine even brighter.

At its core, Head Over Heels is a coming-of-age story about the excitement, confusion, and beauty of first love. In addition to the central romance between Seong-A and Gyeon-U, the story also introduces  a love triangle with Ji-ho (played by Cha Kang-yoon), Seong-A’s close friend. Cha Kang-yoon shared, “At first, Ji-ho is unsure of his feelings for Seong-A. Seong-A does everything she can to save Gyeon-U, and while seeing this, Ji-ho becomes sure of his feelings.” Director Kim Yong-wan added, “Watching them portray those moments of youthful first love and high school days, it really felt like the most beautiful time of their lives.” However, Head Over Heels offers more than just a sweet romance. As Choo Ja-hyun put it, “If a series is only cute and fluffy, it won’t be very memorable. I think ours carries depth alongside the cute side.” Get ready for a series that will not only entertain but also leave a lasting impression.
