Monday, March 23, 2020

Major events around the world have been cancelled, social activities have been halted everywhere and government has issued guidelines, urging people to adopt social distancing and avoid going out. Well, which means we have a lot of time to spend at home and a chance to catch up binge-worthy Korean dramas.

Here are some suggestions on what to watch while you are snuggled up at home!

1) Itaewon Class
Starring Park Seo Joon, Kim Dami, Kwon Nara & Kim Dong Hee
The talk of the town! Itaewon Class is certainly the drama you ought to check out! With Park Seo Joon (as Park Sae Ro-yi), Kim Dami (as Jo Yi Seo), Kwon Nara (as Oh Soo Ah), Kim Donghee (as Jang Geun Soo) and more stellar casts, the drama has soared in ratings at 14.1% nationwide, proving its standing as one of the most popular K-drama these days.

The drama tells a story of how a group of individuals from diverse backgrounds fight injustice and chase their ambitions. Aside from the slice-of-life and rom-com elements the drama possesses, it also touches on today’s social issues. From racism to gender discrimination, ‘Itaewon Class’ dynamically addressed the pressing social problems in our daily lives, promoting equality in our society. The most appealing feature of the drama is undeniably the development of each character. Given the solid and deep background of the characters, viewers can empathise with them.

Kudos to the actors and actresses for pulling off their role perfectly!

2) Nobody Knows
Starring Kim Seo Hyung, Ryu Deok Hwan, Park Hoon
A show for melodrama-enthusiasts, Nobody Knows is an emotional mystery drama of detective Cha Young Jin (starring Kim Seo Hyung) who chases down a serial killer for 19 years, carrying the guilt of her friend’s death. Dark and eerie, this drama is a no-no for the faint-hearted as some gory crimes were committed in the early episodes.

As the title suggests, nobody can predict how the drama will progress. The story slowly unfolds every episode with new discoveries made for viewers to connect the dots. With the drama’s endless number of casts, each character plays an important role for certain events to occur, developing the plot. Each episode will leave you at the edge of your seat for viewers should expect the unexpected.

Do look forward to some heart-warming scenes of friendship and kinship to perfectly neutralise the gloomy vibe of the drama!

3) Voice Series [Voice (2017), Voice 2 (2018) & Voice 3 (2019)]
Starring Jang Hyuk (Season 1). Lee Hana (Season 1~3), Lee Jin Wook (Season 1 & 2)
The success from the OCN Drama, Voice, has led to the production of 3 seasons in total (at least for now!). The thriller and crime drama revolves around the policewoman, Kang Kwon Joo (starring Lee Hana), a professional voice profiler who can listen and discern the faintest sounds to solve crimes. Working in an emergency call centre, called the Golden Time Team, the police team unfold crimes with the help of Lee Hana’s exceptional ability.

Living up to the genre as a thriller, the drama includes extreme gruesome and violent scenes which required censorship in the later episodes (definitely not for the fainthearted!).

4) Meow, The Secret Boy
Starring INFINITE'sL (Kim Myung Soo), Shin Ye-Eun, Seo Ji-Hoon, Yoon Ye-Joo
A refreshing drama, where a cat has the ability to transform into a human being, Hong Jo (played by Kim Myung Soo). Unaware of its peculiar ability, Sol Ah (played by Shin Ye Eun), takes home the cat. Premiering on Viu on 26 March 2020, viewers can also look forward to the drama’s Original Sound Tracks by WJSN's Dayoung & Exy, BLOCK B's Park Kyung and many more to come!
