Twitter Data Reveals the Growth of KPOP throughout the Past Decade

Sunday, September 27, 2020

Remember those days where we had to struggle (with our limited Korean proficiency) to own or log in to sites like Me2day, Cyworld or forums just to get updates of our favourite KPOP idols?

As time progresses, the development and evolution of social media have definitely played a huge role in bridging the gap between fans and artists. With that being said, getting updates from our favourite idols is definitely no longer a problem - as numerous entertainment agencies and the artists as well took the opportunity to use social media as a platform to communicate and reach out to more fans, be it from releasing new music to details of their daily lives.

In collaboration with KPOPradar (fandom data observing platform), Twitter Data recently released some data analysis on the growth of Korean Wave throughout the past decade.

According to TwitterData, a total of 6.1billion KPOP conversation were tweeted last year itself. That is an impressive figure and solid proof showing the tremendous growth of Korean Wave around the world.

The influence of social media definitely breaks the language barrier between K-pop and international fans, bringing different cultures and races together to support their idols plus creating new relationships between fandoms.
