2020 has been a tough yet a year of great change for the music industry. As the end of 2020 is around the corner, lets recap on some incidents that happened in the KPOP industry this year, including news on military enlistment, come back, marriages, break up and others. 

Kang Daniel and TWICE’s Jihyo relationship came in an end in November 2020 after dating for more than 1 year. The reason for their break up was because they were unable to meet up often due to their hectic schedules. The couple revealed their relationship to the public in September 2019. The couple had received a lot of attention from the global fans but unfortunately, they were also attacked by some malicious comments. 

Rapper Swings belatedly admitted about his breakup with actress Im Bora. The couple has been dating since 2017 but breakup rumours about them arose when they were found deleting all photos taken together on social media. Swings admitted to the breakup in October while Im Bora decided to remain silent.

One of them is the member of the legendary group, TVXQ's Chang Min who announced his marriage with his non-celebrity girlfriend. He carefully delivered the happy news through a handwritten letter in June. The couple started dating back in December 2019. The wedding ceremony that was supposed to be held in September was postponed slightly later to October. 

Unfortunately, there was also news about divorced. Former U-KISS member Eli conveyed the sad news through his Instagram. He shared that he had been staying separately from his family and pray for his son and wife (Ji Yeon Su)’s happiness. In December 2015, Eli revealed that he had been married with racing model, Ji Yeon Soo for over a year since June 2014. 

CLICK B’s member, Kim Sang Hyuk also announced divorce after a year of marriage with online shopping mall CEO, Song Da Ye as they could not overcome their differences. Veteran singer Lee Sun Hee had also ended her 14 years marriage with her husband in May. 

2020 has also seen several stars who left us for a while for military enlistment to fulfil their duty. From Winner’s Kim Jin Woo and Lee SeungHoon to EXO’s Suho, to Zico, and more had enlisted this year. 

However, artists such as CNBLUE’s Kang Min Hyuk, HIGHLIGHT’s Yoon Doo Jun, BTOB’s Seo Eun Kwang, MinHyuk and Lee Chang Sub, SHINee’s Onew and Key, Exo’s Xiumin, Yoon Ji Sung and more had been discharged from the military as well! 

With that, CNBLUE had reorganized the band into a 3 members band and made a successful comeback. BTOB had also formed a unit Btob 4U consisting of Eun Kwang, Chang Sub, MinHyuk and Peniel. SHINee’s Key had also made his return to tvN’s Amazing Saturday alongside Han Hae after discharging from the military service. 

Gummy and Jo Jung Suk welcomed their first daughter back in August. A month after giving birth, Gummy resumed her activities by participating in the drama “Do You Like Brahms” OST. She also made a guest appearance on KBS 2TV Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook and had captivated the viewers with her unchanged singing ability and stage manner. 

Singer Bada had also become a mum after giving birth to her daughter in September. In November, she appeared in MBC’s entertainment program “Radio Star” and confessed that she had trouble breathing due to bleeding during childbirth.

Charity-project-turned-TV-show Coffee Friends is available on tvN in Asia every Saturday at 21:00 (GMT+8)! In today(2 Feb)’s episode, audience will see TVXQ’s Yunho join as the new part-time employee to help out at the cafe.

tvN’s new variety show Coffee Friends originates from a charity project of the same name hosted by Yoo Yeon-seok and Son Ho-jun. This time, the duo brought this project onto TV screen and turned the mobile coffee truck into a cafe at a tangerine farm on Jeju Island. All proceeds will be donated to charity. In last week’s episode, they launched a new menu to encourage donation from customers, which received overwhelming support and gave much laughter to the viewers.

In this week’s episode, audience can finally see the highly anticipated guest, Yunho, a.k.a. U-Know, of TVXQ and good friend of Son Ho-jun, who also supported the coffee truck donation project last year. Greeting everyone with a big smile and great enthusiasm as he enters the cafe, Yunho is immediately assigned dish-washing duty by buddy, Ho-jun. In order to free himself from kitchen chores Yunho displays his positive and passionate attitude by cheering for himself and said “I will work hard and go meet the customers as fast as I can!”

Indeed, during the production conference held earlier Ho-jun already revealed the appearance of Yunho and teased that it is going to be filled with funny moments. Stay tuned to see how passionate Yunho is in the upcoming episode’s Coffee Friends!

The K-pop Kings, TVXQ! (Dong Bang Shin Ki) reunited after 2 years and kick-started 'TVXQ! Asia Press Tour' in Seoul on 21 August. The duo opened up and revealed their upcoming group activities and plans.

The duo is planning to comeback with their solo tracks and embarks their 'TVXQ! Week' starting from the last week of September. Both songs will be featured as part of SM Station Season 2 with U-KNOW's solo track 'Drop' to be released on 25 September while MAX's track to be released on 29 September. During the press conference, U-KNOW reveals that: "In September, we will be releasing our individual solo tracks. My solo track 'Drop' and a song from Max as well, these solo tracks will show a new side of TVXQ!. " 

Before it released, U-KNOW actually performed his new solo song 'Drop' during SMTOWN LIVE 6th World Tour and his energetic performance has chartered the headlines in Korea.  Aside from the solo tracks, when being asked about their next album, MAX then said: "We're working on the album but I think the album will be released in early next year. We wanted to release as soon as possible but we hope to release a perfect album to not disappoint our fans who have been waiting for us for such a long time." 

Followed by the solo tracks released, TVXQ! will then greet the fans through 'TVXQ! Special Comeback Live - YouR PresenT' which held on 30 September & 1 October at Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium, Seoul. The Japan Dome Tour, however, will kick starts from 11 November in five main cities (Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo and Fukuoka) which set to attract 650,000 fans across 14 performances. 

Highlights during the press conference:

Q: Share us your feeling after you return from the military?

MAX: I'm still very nervous right now because it's less than a week since I was discharged from the military. Actually, I still feel more comfortable in the police uniform.

U-KNOW: I think Max has become more handsome and mature. I'm happy that we returned safely and we wanted to keep our promise. I think it's the time for a new change and marks a turning point in our careers.

Q: Which TV programme or variety show do you want to appear on?

U-KNOW: There are many interesting programmes nowadays that we want to appear on, especially current hit variety show 'Knowing Brothers' which Heechul and Kang Hodong are there. We wanted to break the typical image of TVXQ! through the program. Not only Knowing Brothers, we also hope to greet the audiences through other programmes. 

Q: Both of you are in your 30s now. How do you feel?

MAX: Actually, kids nowadys don't know who we are. They think we're just some tall ajjushi (gentlemen/uncles). Rather than feeling sad, we feel more responsible now and will try our best to engage in various activities to get closer to our fans.

Right after the press meet in Seoul, TVXQ! will make a stop in Tokyo today and Hong Kong on Tuesday, 7pm for TVXQ! Asia Press Tour. 

MAX who will discharge from the military on 18 August (this Friday) will be joining U-KNOW who discharged in this April. Not only Cassiopeia (TVXQ!'s fans club name) are more than excited to TVXQ!'s return but the press has lots of interest as well.

TVXQ! released their special album 'Rise As God' in July 2015 before their enlistment and have swept the charts in Korea and also China. They also proved their popularity in Japan alone with 2.75 Million, the record-breaking fans attended their concert from 2012 ~ 2015.
